The Lockheed S-3B Viking is an American twin-engine long range anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft that was primarily operated by the US Navy. It was designed to track and attack enemy submarines using a variety of sensors and weapons, such as sonobuoys, torpedoes, and missiles (replaced piston engine Grumman S-2 Tracker). The S-3B Viking also had the capability to perform reconnaissance, surveillance, and search and rescue missions.
The S-3B Viking was retired from active service in 2009, but a few examples are still used as test platforms and by NASA for scientific research.
